Frequently Asked Questions

  • A: We let everyone know the next date/time of upcoming class schedules and registration days in our newsletter. Sign up at the bottom of this page! Registration days are very competitive and everything sells out almost immediately, so remember to mark your calendar!

  • We launch new classes/workshops/throw downs on our ‘Classes and Workshops’ webpage every couple of months, at a set date and time (advertised in our newsletter, on our Instagram, and posted on our website)

Once registration opens, an image and ‘add to cart’ button will appear beside the course/workshop to purchase! Holding items in your ‘shopping cart’ does not guarantee that it is yours! The transaction must be completed in full.

You are allowed to register on behalf of others. If you are wanting to take a class with friends, we suggest one person register for the entire group to ensure everyone gets in together, rather than one at a time (where someone often gets left out). The larger the group, the more difficult it is to get everyone in. Please email us afterwards with the names/emails of whom you’ve registered for.

Everything sells out almost immediately, we recommend logging on as soon as registration opens to try and get a spot.

  • Gift card redemption codes (16 digits/letters) can be used on registration days at the check out.

    FNTD Gift Cards:
We acknowledge that everything sells out extremely fast! Gift card holders are prioritized on the Friday Night Throw Down waitlists; so you can also email us at any time with your gift card redemption code to try and book.

    Private Lesson Gift Cards:
Please email us with your redemption code and preferred days/times, and we will send you the booking info.

    Member Gift Cards:
Clay gift cards and wheel-time gift cards are NOT interchangeable, they get processed on separate systems. If you need help redeeming them please email us!

  • A: Yes, we keep waitlists for all classes, workshops, and Throw Down events. These waitlists are only to fill any cancellations we may receive, the waitlists do not carry over to future classes. Email us with your preferred dates/times and we will add you to the list(s)!

  • A: Yes, we offer one-time private wheel-throwing lessons for up to 9 people, or hand-building lessons for larger groups of up to 20 people. We do not currently offer any recurring private lessons. Please email us for prices and booking. We do not currently accept bookings over the phone.

  • A: Clay washes out of most clothes, but you should be prepared to get a little muddy! We also have aprons and small towels you can borrow while you’re visiting the studio. Flat shoes with adequate traction are ideal (no high heels). We recommend hair to be tied back and fingernails cut short. Dangly jewelry or rings on your fingers should be removed and left at home.

  • A: At this time our studio has an age limit of 16+ unless otherwise specified. We do hope to run summer courses for younger kids in the future.

  • A: All our glazes are food safe and can be used on the insides of pots. Finished ceramics are microwave and dishwasher safe. They can also be used in an oven if heated and cooled slowly (ie. put it in while you pre-heat).

  • We have limited storage space at the studio. Anything left behind will be kept for 30 days, after that your items will either be donated to the studio or discarded. Please email us as soon as possible if you think you’ve left something behind that you would like to retrieve!

  • A: Shimpo-VL Whisper Wheels. They have 14 inch wheel heads (bat holes drilled at 10”), can withstand up to 100lbs of clay, uses a foot pedal to control the wheel speed, and they accommodate both left and right handed users.

  • A: We bisque fire at cone 06 (~1000°C / ~1800°F) and glaze fire at cone 6 (~1200°C / ~2200°F).
*Please note we do not fire any pieces from outside our studio, or rent out kiln space! We only fire clay that has been purchased from mud directly.

  • A: We do not allow any outside clay in the studio.

Clay is included in all classes and workshops.

If you are a studio member, clay must be purchased from the studio directly (sold in 20lb bags).

We do not fire any pieces from outside our studio, or rent out kiln space! We only fire clay that has been purchased from mud directly. You must be a member.

  • A: To become a registered studio member with drop-in access, we have the requirement of taking two rounds of multi-week classes with us beforehand. We find this is a good way for us to get to know everyone a bit before they become members, and lets the member get acquainted with the space and studio protocols.

If you have completed two multi-week classes and are interested in joining a membership, please email us!

  • A: Clay dust contains free silica that becomes airborne when clay dries out and creates dust. If the dust is inhaled, it can lead to a health condition called Silicosis. Mops, sponges, and spray bottles are available throughout the studio for wet cleaning only. No sweeping, no sanding, and no additional powders are to be brought in to the studio (ie. mason stains, cement/plaster mix).

  • Unfortunately, our studio is not currently wheelchair accessible. We understand the importance of ensuring inclusivity and dignity for everyone interested in pottery, however, due to the architectural limitations of our current space, we are unable to provide adequate accessibility for wheelchair users.

The City of Calgary has an accessible wheel classroom at the Wild Flower studio, and they also have an accessible wheel; we recommend reaching out to them!

  • Sorry, we are not able to offer this service. You can purchase an epoxy specifically for ceramics (sold online or at hardware stores). After using epoxy, we do not recommend using the piece functionally anymore, it would only be decorative.
