Class Schedule: Mondays ⋅ 6:30-9:00pm ⋅ August 31 - October 12
Take your wheel-throwing skills to the next level by exploring the design and construction of functional pouring vessels. Projects will progress in complexity throughout the course, beginning with small creamers and ewers before moving into larger pitchers and, finally, a lidded teapot. Students will develop an understanding of how each component contributes to a vessel's function while refining their wheel-throwing and hand building skills.
Learning Objectives:
Create balanced, functional pouring vessels.
Design, pull, and attach comfortable, ergonomic handles.
Construct efficient, well-pouring spouts using both hand built and wheel-thrown techniques.
Build well-fitting lids and explore different lid-making techniques.
Consider both aesthetics and functionality while altering forms to improve design.
Refine surfaces through trimming, optional decoration, and glazing.
Prerequisites:
Minimum of two beginner wheel classes and ample self-directed studio time.
Ability to wedge and centre 2 lbs of clay consistently without assistance.
Comfortable throwing basic cylinders and bowls.
Working knowledge of trimming fundamentals.
What’s Included:
The base class fee is $380 and does not include clay. After registration, we’ll email you with instructions to select and purchase your first bag of clay. Sample images of available clay bodies can be viewed online here. This setup allows you the flexibility to explore different clay bodies throughout the course. Basic tools and aprons are provided, and glaze and firing fees are included in the class fee.
Please ensure when signing up for a course that you will be able to attend all lessons scheduled for that course. Ceramics are typically completed on a weekly basis due to the drying time required for your pieces each week. Our full cancellation/rescheduling policy is available here.
